Shape Memory - Finger Joint Stool

Shape Memory is a term used to describe a type of polymer that can be deformed into a temporary shape and return to its original programmed shape. When the programmed shape is triggered by external stimuli, in this case heat, it causes the polymer to become elastic thus creating the possibility to change it’s original shape when a downward force it applied to it. After countless material testing and iterative design processes, we were able to fabricate a 3D printed shape memory chair/stool in one print session.
